이 글은 전남 동부지역 생활유적 출토 가야계토기와 출토유구의 특징을 살펴보고 그에 대한 의미를 찾아보고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 생활유적에서 출토되는 가야계토기는 아라가야와 소가야계가 대부분으로 일부 창녕계토기도 확인되며, 그 시기는 4세기대~5세기 후반대로 파악되었다. 가야계토기가 출토된 주거지는 출토되지 않은 주거지와 뚜렷한 차이가 확인되지 않으며, 오히려 마한계주거양식인 4주식에서도 출토되고 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 가야계토기와 평면 원형계 주거지의 높은 비율은 전남 동부에 대한 가야세력의 확대로 인한 주거문화의 변화로 볼 수는 없다. 양 지역이 평면형태나 구조 등에 있어서 유사한 주거문화의 분포권이며, 외부의 변화에 민감하지 못하고 각각의 재지적인 주거형태를 오랫동안 유지했던 것으로 볼 수 있다. 전남 동부지역은 평면 원형계를 계속 유지하면서 일부는 마한의 주거유형인 방형계와 4주식주거지를 받아들였고 그와 함께 가야지역과의 교류를 통해 토기계통 일부도 받아들였던 것으로 파악해야 할 것이다.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the characteristics of Gaya pottery and ruins excavated from ruins in Eastern Jeonnam and find out corresponding meanings. Gaya pottery excavated from ruins are mostly of Aragaya and Sogaya with some of Changnyeong, whose timeline ranges from 4th to late 5th century. The dwelling sites where Gaya pottery were excavated did not exhibit distinct differences from those with none; rather, excavation is occurring in four-pillar type which is of Mahan dwelling site type. The Gaya pottery and planar round-type dwelling site observed in Eastern Jeonnam cannot be viewed as a change in residential culture due to expansion of Gaya reigns in Eastern Jeonnam. Both areas belong to one distribution area of similar dwelling site in its planar formation or structure, and it is observed that they were not sensitive to external changes and thus have maintained respective local residential formation for a long time. Eastern Jeonnam held on to the planar round-type formation while some parts accepted the rectangular-type and four-pillar type dwelling site, along with which they accepted some of pottery through exchanges with Gaya areas.
