백제가 가야의 금공품에 영향을 적지 않게 미쳤음은 주지의 사실이다. 그런데 한성 함락 후 웅진기 초기의 혼란한 시기에 가야에서는 특징적인 환두대도가 유행하고 그것이 넓은 지역에 분포되어 대가야의 성장을 보여주는 것으로 여겨졌다. 그만큼 이 시기의 백제에서 금공품 제작 전통과 기술이 위축된 것으로 여겨진 것이다. 그런데 최근 공주 수촌리 고분군, 고창 봉덕리 1호분 등에서 출토된 새로운 자료는 이러한 사정에 대해 재검토의 여지가 있음을 보여 주었다. 소위 가야계 용봉문 환두대도에서 보이는 특징인 병두금구 등의 쌍용문, 교호사선문(능삼문) 및 환두의 주룡문 등은 백제에서 이미 5세기에 사용되었으며 대가야 환두대도 성립에도 크게 영향을 미쳤다. 그리고 옥전 M3호분 이후 가야계 용봉문 환두대도가 성립되어 유행하였지만 고령 주산 구 39호분 출토 환두대도 등을 고려하면 여전히 가야의 환두대도에는 백제의 영향이 미치고 있었다고 여겨진다. 이러한 교류를 통해 가야에서 유행한 별주식의 환두가 백제에서도 인지되고 있었을 것이다. 이러한 점을 고려하면 백제의 영향을 받아 성립된 소위 가야계 용봉문 환두대도는 대가야에서만 제작되어 유행한 것이 아니라 백제에서도 그와 유사한 용봉문 환두대도가 병행하여 만들어졌을 가능성이 있다고 생각된다. 영산강유역의 환두대도가 그에 해당할 것이다. 즉, 용봉문 환두대도의 성립과 확산에 백제-대가야(고령)-합천 등 대가야 권역-신라의 창녕 및 경주, 백제-고창-나주로 이어지는 이중의 루트가 있었을 가능성을 제기한다. 두 루트를 통한 기술이 왜로 전해져 한반도와는 다른 독특한 용봉문 환두대도가 유행한 것으로 생각된다.

It is a well-known fact that Baekje influenced on the metal craftwork of Gaya. But during the chaotic time after the fall of Hanseong(漢城), Gaya style decorated sword had gone to the fashion and it had been distributed in a wide area. That was considered to show the growth of Daegaya(大加耶). The tradition and technology of the metal craftwork of Baekje has been considered to be shrinking at this time. Recently, however, the newly unearthed relics from Gongju Suchonni(公州水村里) tombs and Gochang Bongdeokni(高敞鳳德里) tomb suggested the question about this consideration. The feature of Gaya style decorated sword, that is, two dragons on handle, two dragons which passes aside and diagonal lines had been used already in Baekje from 5th century. And these feature had influenced a lot on the formation of Gaya style decorated sword. And Gaya style decorated sword had prevailed after Okjeon(玉田) 3 tomb. In consideration of the Goryeong(高靈) royal tombs such as Jusan(主山) 39 tomb, the influence of Baekje on Gaya had been continued to 6th century. Through this exchange, the Gaya style technique such as the ring pommel cast separately from decoration in ring was also known at Baekje. Considering these points, Gaya style decorated sword formed under influence of Baekje had been not only produced and prevailed at Gaya but also at Baekje. The decorated sword of Yeongsangang river basin is applicable to that. There was two routes of the formation and spread of Gaya style decorated sword. That is Baekje-Daegaya-Silla(新羅) and Aragaya(阿羅加耶), Baekje-Gochang-Naju(羅州) routes. The technique handed down through two routes to Wa(倭) had formed the unique decorated sword different from that of Korean peninsula.
